DIESEL INDUSTRY CELEBRATES 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH BIOBOR®
Houston TX - May 12 2015 - There aren’t many things that affect the mechanized world more than fuel and there are very few innovations in the past 50 years that have affected fuel more than Biobor. 2015 marks the 50 year celebration of this remarkable product. All fuels and lubricants both hydrocarbon and bio-based share a common problem they are susceptible to attack from microbial growth. Microscopic organisms that consume hydrocarbon fuel for food grow at an alarming rate form slimy mats clog fuel filters and supply lines and if left unchecked destroy every fuel system component that comes in contact with their highly acidic waste. Biobor was originally developed by SOHIO Petroleum for use as a performance additive in their premium gasoline; it was called Boron Premium. Biobor raised octane levels enough that poorly tuned engines ran much better. Research on Biobor also proved to sterilize water bottoms in storage tanks completely eliminating microbial growth. In 1965 jet powered commercial aircraft were becoming the new aviation standard and were discovered to be the perfect environment for microbial contamination. Aircraft manufacturers and airlines were desperate to find a safe effective cure and Biobor JF delivered the ideal combination of performance and safe application needed by the industry. Although aviation has always been a high profile critical use for Biobor the much larger and more diverse need would be found in motor fuels and lubricants. Diesel engines powering everything from trains to standby power plants would soon depend on Biobor the same as aviation.

Over the past 50 years much has been learned about how hydrocarbon utilizing organisms can grow and destroy just about everything that runs on liquid fuel. Equipment that stored fuel for extended periods was found to be susceptible with marine applications being particularly liable since fuel is consumed in humid areas prone to promote and hold water in the fuel. Microbes that consume hydrocarbon fuel must have three primary components in order to multiply at alarming rates; fuel for food water for hydration and temperatures of at least 70°. Unfortunately motor fuel distribution and storage often leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to controlling moisture and contaminants. So most every kind of industrial engine driven equipment deals with excessive water and therefore is prone to microbial contamination. High incidence of filter and fuel line clogging poor performance rapidly worn injectors and corrosion of fuel tanks are all symptoms of microbial growth.

Modern Tier IV common rail engines utilize ultra-high pressure close tolerance injectors making them even more intolerant of fuel born contaminants. Compounding the requirements of high tech engines is the dramatic loss of lubricity found in modern ultra-low sulfur diesel. Lower levels of sulfur also mean less resistance to microbial growth. Unlike any other biocide Biobor is the only product that kills and prevents microbial growth in addition to adding lubricity back to ultra-low sulfur fuel. After 50 years Biobor is endorsed and recommended by more engine and equipment manufacturers than any other product in the world.
