UAE- Technology is now a must

Dubai — Technology is no longer an optional luxury; it has become a necessity to maintain airport fluidity safety and security.

This was stated by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri UAE Minister of Economy and chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority in his keynote address at the third edition of the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum which got underway on Monday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The minister said the aviation industry is amid exciting times with tremendous growth in expected in passenger numbers cargo movement and rapid expansion of airports and continuous developments in new technology. At the same time the industry faces the challenge of handling these rising numbers.

“Technology is no more an option. Technology is a necessity to ensure security fast movement and comfort of passengers” Al Mansouri said.

New technology will not only enhance security it will accelerate passenger processing and reduce waiting times. “It will ensure that passengers are able to make fast connections to hundreds of destinations worldwide” he added.

Along with technology security needs an equal attention he emphasised. “Technology is the pathway for future. However without security it can even harm.”

The minister explained how airports in the UAE are using advanced technology while ensuring safety for passenger facilitation.

He said the UAE has paid attention to the key areas that will help meet the future challenges to the industry worldwide.

“Safety investment in technology and educating people are the three key areas we have focused on” he said.

He said: “Our airports are the gates of the UAE and the warmth of our Arabian hospitality is reflected in opening our gates for carriers of the world. We believe that accommodating global operators regardless of their ownership is not only driven by our sense of duty but it represents message to the world.”

“Today we have 785 registered aircraft and over 500 registered foreign operators enjoy the benefits of moving passengers in and out of UAE. Airports and air transport sectors cannot prosper without free flow of passengers between airports.”

The minister said that the UAE has perhaps found the right formula for sustainable airport growth the main components are national and regional cooperation regarding safety and security investment in technology as well as educating the general public. These are the vital factors in order to facilitate the passengers’ demand while investing in capacity building.”
