Saulat Mirza to go to gallows today in Pakistan

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Death row convict and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Saulat Mirza will be executed on Tuesday in Machh jail, Balochistan, said jail authorities.

Saulat was convicted and sentenced to death by an anti-terrorist court on charge of murder of managing director of the Karachi Electric Supply Company in 1995. All his appeals to the high court and superior court were dismissed while the President also turned down a mercy petition.

In March, Saulat made startling disclosures and implicated senior MQM leaders in the target killing of KESC chief and several other prominent people. The president of pakistan deferred his execution for a probe into his allegations. Early this month a court in Karachi fixed May 12 as fresh date of execution.

Jail authorities said Saulat's wife and other relatives had their last meeting with him in jail on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court on Monday rejected the plea by Shafqat Hussain's counsel to form a committee to probe the age of the death-row convict amid continuing controversy over his claim that he was a minor when he killed a child after molesting him.
