France backs migrants quota policy amid rampant migration flows
(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) France supports the European Union (EU)'s proposal to restrict immigration flows to European doors after alarming number of illegal migrants and asylum seekers tried to reach the other rim of the Mediterranean, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Monday.
"This proposal is inspired in part by France's suggestion. It is natural that the member countries of the European Union share out the number of asylum seekers," Cazeneuve told RTL radio.
The French minister also urged further efforts to better coordinate and secure borders "to save lives."
"We must work with the countries of origin to distinguish between illegal immigration and asylum seekers, and to reform the asylum policy in France," he added.
At the end of April, European Commission (EC) President Jean-Claude Juncker asked the members of the bloc to set immigration quotas to help Italy and Greece to deal with rising number of illegal migrants and asylum seekers, who fled conflicts in their native countries seeking for better live in Europe.
On Wednesday, the EC will hammer out a global strategy on immigration and discuss migration policy quota.
