Egypt Justice Min. resigns on backdrop of controversial remarks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said he has accepted the resignation tendered earlier by Minister of Justice Mahfoudh Saber on Monday.

Saber's resignation comes on the backdrop of comments he reportedly made that caused public controversy.

"Minister Saber has displayed his respect and appreciation for all segments of the society," the prime minister said in a Cabinet statement.

Remarks made by Saber are merely a "slip of the tongue," said the prime minister, adding that "respect for public opinion" was what prompted the decision to step down.

"The government respects all components of the society and appreciates low-skilled labour, in particular, as they are the ones who contribute to creating the future of this nation," he said.
