Roads around Qatar National Museum open for traffic

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Traffic through the newly developed roads around the under-construction Qatar National Museum has resumed.

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said on Monday that the roads provide a direct link to the intersection of Corniche with Ras Abu Abboud road.

Ashghal is continuing its efforts to implement landscaping works to improve services in the area. The new road link provides connectivity to the museum which is being fast developed into one of most important tourist destinations in the region.

The works were undertaken as part of the Qatar National Museum Peripheral Roads project, which falls under Ashghal's Local Roads and Drainage programme.

As part of the QR79 million project, an integrated road network was built to ensure flawless traffic movement around the Qatar National Museum area by providing an effective link to the roads in the neighbourhood.

With their redesigning and reconstruction, the roads surrounding the museum now have two lanes in each direction against one lane earlier. It also provides specific entrances and facilitates visitors' access to and from the museum, and the commercial and residential properties nearby.

The project also provides new street lighting, car parking, safe pedestrian crossings, and cycle paths. Infrastructural works in the area include an advanced waste water system that provides sustainable solutions to sewage and storm water drainage. The new developments also include irrigation systems and general utilities services.

The new roads and other facilities, according to Ashghal, are in line with the needs to boost tourism and related facilities in the country.
