China's auto sales down to 1.99m units in April

(MENAFN) An industry group said that China's automobile sales, the world's largest car market, dropped 0.5 percent in April to 1.99 million vehicles, AFP reported.

In the January-April period, auto sales increased 2.8 percent to 8.14 million vehicles, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Slowing economic growth, limits by some cities on vehicle numbers and a prolonged corruption crackdown affecting the luxury segment have all had an impact on sales in China.

However, foreign brands have generally held up well despite the economic downturn. Japanese auto maker Honda said it sold 71,546 units in China in April, up 11.7 percent on-year.
