Arab chiefs of staff to meet in Cairo over joint force

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Arab League on Sunday invited the chiefs of staff of Arab armies for a meeting in Egyptian capital Cairo on May 23 and 24.

The meeting is expected to follow up on the formation of a joint Arab military force as decided by Arab leaders during their March summit in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Arab League deputy chief Ahmed bin Heli was quoted as saying by Egypt's state-run Middle East News Agency.

The Arab top brass held their first meeting on the issue in Cairo on April 22.

They agreed to form a team of senior military officials to study the different aspects of the proposed joint force, including operation mechanisms and funding.

When they approved the force formation, Arab leaders said it would be tasked with protecting Arab security and fighting terrorism.
