Yemen's Houthi-linked TV channel taken off air

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The pro-Houthi Al-Massira television channel said Sunday that it was forced to suspend its transmission through Nilesat and Eutelsat satellite networks.

The channel added on Twitter that the suspension of its transmission on Sunday evening was a result of "Saudi-American pressure" on the companies owning the satellites.

The channel's transmission was abruptly halted on Sunday evening and its YouTube page has been blocked inside Yemen.

Earlier on Sunday, the channel's management said on Twitter that it had received closure threats by the administrations of Nilesat - the Egyptian satellite network through which the channel broadcasts - and European Eutelsat.

It urged its viewers to configure the channel on the Russian satellite.

Since late March, Saudi Arabia and several of its Arab allies have been pounding Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says its campaign is in response to appeals by Yemen's embattled President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi for military intervention against the Houthis.

The Houthis, meanwhile, denounce the offensive as an unwarranted "Saudi-American aggression" on Yemen.
