GCC leaders' summit in US reflects strategic partnership


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The historic summit, gathering Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries' leaders and the United States President Barack Obama, to be held on May 13-14, reflects the strategic partnership between both sides, Kuwaiti Ambassador to the US Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Sunday.

The top and veteran diplomat added in remarks to KUNA that "This historic summit reflects the keenness of both sides on enhancing and strengthening mutual cooperation" between the US and the State of Kuwait.

"Such meetings, gathering President Obama with GCC leaders at the White House and the Presidential Retreat Camp David will contribute in boosting ties to best deal with the latest developments in the region," he added.

The US State Department said in a statement earlier that "the expected meeting is a chance to enhance security cooperation and tackle a number of issues and developments in the region, especially means to deal with the conflicts in Iraq, Libya and Yemen." "This meeting is also important to emphasize the strategic cooperation and dispel concerns over Iranian activities to destabilize security and stability of the Gulf, and to re-affirm commitment of the US in protecting the stability of the region,: he added.
