Iran, S. Africa to boost bilateral cooperation ties


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met Sunday with his visiting South African counterpart Maite Nkoana-MashAbane in the Iranian capital, official media reported.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged points of view on a number of regional and international issues and discussed ways to bolster bilateral relations, according to FARS News Agency.

Despite sanctions imposed on his country, Zarif confirmed Tehran's readiness to boost cooperation with South Africa in various fields, including oil, gas, financial and banking affairs, and energy production in South Africa.

He also expressed his appreciation to South Africa's positions towards various regional and international issues, pointing out Iran's historic, friendly, and strategic ties with South Africa.

For her part, Mashabane said that boosting political and economic relations with Tehran is important to South Africa, expressing her country's readiness to enhance political relations with Iran and support bilateral economic and strategic cooperation ties between the two countries.

"We have never supported the sanctions against Iran and believe that they are illogical and illegal," Mashabane said, addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 12th Joint Iran-South Africa Economic Commission in Tehran, which is co-chaired by Zarif.
