UAE successfully drops 55 tons of relief aid in Aden

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The UAE Air Force has dropped 55 tons of relief aid in Aden in response to the humanitarian needs of the people of Yemen, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has said.

He added that the move follows the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and in line with the continuous efforts of the UAE to dispatch the relief aid to sisterly Yemen in the framework of Operation Restore Hope.

Dr. Gargash said in a statement that the relief operation is also conducted in coordination with the sisterly states in the coalition, and with the support of the Relief Operations Centre in Riyadh. "This assistance is part of the first phase of relief programme that provides essential needs of food and medicines to improve the humanitarian and health conditions of Yemeni brothers," he said, adding that the step reflects full commitment of the UAE to the people of Yemen.

He added that the UAE dispatched a number of ships loaded with relief aid to Yemen to assist the people affected by the conflict there, noting that "these ships are facing extreme difficulties to carry out their humanitarian mission and reach the Yemeni ports amid the deteriorating security situation and the intransigence of the Houthi militias that prevent any of these ships loaded with relief aid from reaching the affected people in the current conflict."

Dr. Gargash said the Houthi militias and their allies continue to impede the arrival of relief aid to those affected by the conflict, and noted that this "will worsen the humanitarian situation, which we are witnessing unfolding today in Aden and many other Yemeni cities."

The minister added that there are more than 25 Emirati ships, currently anchored close to the Yemeni port loaded with food and medical supplies.

On behalf of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Gargash thanked the private sector, particularly Emirati businessmen and businesswomen for their contribution and support to the marine aid convoys to Yemen. He added, "This philanthropy is not surprising for those who cherish the values of this great country and this generous leadership."

Dr. Gargash stressed that the UAE is following with great concern the humanitarian situation in Yemen and its repercussions on the displaced and affected people, noting that "the UAE will not spare any effort to support the brothers in all Yemeni governorates to meet their humanitarian needs."

"From this point, we will activate the humanitarian relief file to improve the critical conditions. And through our Arab and humanitarian commitment, we will back the people of Yemen in their difficult time to alleviate the crisis and suffering caused by the coup detat staged by the Houthi militias and their allies.
