UAE- GCC Healthcare Innovation Congress kicks off in Dubai


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Under the patronage of the Ministry of Health of UAE , the GCC Healthcare Innovation Congress opened today in Dubai, with more than 200 Healthcare experts from around the world to discuss a number of innovative strategies to improve the quality of healthcare delivery whilst reducing costs and assessing the latest medical and management technologies for improving patient care.

The two-day congress, supported by the Executive Board of Health Ministers' Council for Cooperation Council States and Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park "DuBiotech", is a key witness to the UAE leadership vision to enhance the UAE's position to become a leading healthcare provider in the region and the world.

The congress was inaugurated by Dr. Yasser Al Nuaimi, the hospital sector expert in the Ministry of Health, who delivered the key opening address on behalf of Dr. Yousif Al Serkal, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Hospital Sector at the Ministry of Health, addressing the current challenges facing the healthcare sector in the country.

Al Nuaimi explained that there is a great need for Innovative strategies to turn our current challenges into opportunities and to be able through these strategies to responds to the needs and expectations of our patients in order to provide safe and high quality healthcare through an efficient and sustainable healthcare system.

During the inauguration of the congress Prof. Tawfik Al Khoja, Director General Executive Board Health Ministers' Council for Cooperation Council sated that innovation is the key to Healthcare Reform, and we have to promote government investment for investment in research and developments for innovation, also we should focus on innovation leadership and building leadership by helping researchers and innovators.

Al Khoja added, "Accelerating innovation is a key focus for the health ministries across the region and building partnerships with specialize credible institutions and organizations will help fuel innovation in the healthcare industry."

The Ministry of Health, UAE presented their current project "Wareed" which is dedicated to improving the healthcare quality through the use of Electronic Medical Records and it allows reporting of data for audit and performance measurement of outpatient, inpatient, emergency department and nursing activities. This project has enhanced data quality, increased understanding of EMR systems and improved aspects of healthcare delivery to the benefit of patients, the project was presented by Mubaraka M. Ali Ibrahim, Director, Health Information Systems Dept. at the Ministry of Health, UAE The congress discussed a variety of topics financial investment in health information technology and the return on investments, and the use of health information technology to combat disease outbreaks on a large scale, the use of health electronic surveillance network, the integration of electronic health records, , and how it will be implemented and the UAE Ministry of Health discussed the exchange of health information electronically between hospitals, revenue cycle management, coding systems, big data, interoperability and more.

The congress will also focus on improving patient access to healthcare services through telehealth, mobile health, social media and more.
