Regional conference on autism opens Tuesday in Amman

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The first regional conference on autism will open in Amman on Tuesday with the participation of experts from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Syria and Jordan.

The theme to be discussed at the conference is "Modern Scientific Trends in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Diagnosis, Rehabilitation and Therapy." Head of the conference Dr. Ibrahim Abu Aleem said the meeting will provide an opportunity for experts to review developments related to serving peoples with disabilities in general, and those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in particular.

The conference, he added, will also contribute to scientific research, update scientific data and enable participants to look into medical and psychological services offered to people with ASD.

During the three-day conference, the specialists will discuss modern scientific trends in autism spectrum disorder, including the modern diagnosis of the disorder, in addition to rehabilitating people who suffer from these disorders.

An exhibition on medical equipment, medicine and methods of training and rehabilitating people with ASD will also be held on the sidelines of the conference.

ASD is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. There is often nothing about how people with ASD look that sets them apart from other people, but people with ASD might communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most people. The learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities of people with ASD can range from gifted to severely challenged. Some people with ASD need much assistance in their daily lives.
