Threat level increased at US military bases

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) U.S. military bases raised their threat alert levels in response to increased and predictable threat of terrorism, officials said Friday evening.

Head of US Northern Command, Admiral William Gortney, signed the order to raise the threat level saying "It is the third-highest threat level on a five-tier scale used by the Department of Defense." The security order included 3,200 sites, including military bases, National Guard facilities, recruiting stations and health clinics, a Pentagon official said.

The threat level alert followed remarks by Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter that such threats should be "taken seriously," and that, while Daesh remains an inspiration to homegrown terrorists more than director commanders, their influence is "concerning." On Thursday, FBI Director James Comey told reporters that there are thousands of Daesh, also known as ISIL, followers online in the U.S.

We have a general concern, obviously, that Daesh is focusing on the uniformed military and law enforcement," Comey said.
