China's consumer inflation up 1.5 percent in Apri

(MENAFN) Data showed that China's consumer inflation increased by 1.5 percent in April on-year, missing market expectations and raising deflation concerns, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

Analysts polled previously by Reuters had predicted the Chinese consumer price index (CPI) would pick up to 1.6 percent, compared with 1.4 percent posted the prior month.

The producer price index remained negative for the 37th consecutive month, falling 4.6 percent and extending factory deflation to more than three years, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

Wary about following Japan, where a decade-long fall in consumer prices has dragged on economic growth, senior Chinese officials said they were keeping a close eye on deflationary pressures.
