Road accidents in Oman fall 21% deaths down by 24%


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The sultanate has witnessed a sharp fall in the number of road accidents also leading to a decline in resulting casualties.

The latest figures till March 2015 released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) say that accident numbers have fallen from 1609 in the same period last year to 1275 this year – a 20.8 per cent decline.

Figures show that injuries from road accidents have come down by a massive 68.8 per cent while the number of deaths is down by 24.1 per cent.

Deaths came down from 212 between January and March 2014 to 161 in the same period this year according to the NCSI figures. Those killed included 107 Omanis (84 men and 23 women) and 54 expats (47 men and seven women).

As many as 733 were injured in the first three months of this year. The figure last year during the same period was 2352.

Of those injured 563 were Omanis (412 men and 151 women) and 170 expats (143 men and 27 women) according to NCSI.
