Bid to smuggle RDX from Bahrain foiled
(MENAFN- Arab News) Security authorities on Friday morning thwarted an attempt to smuggle highly explosive material RDX and arrested an unspecified number of suspects at the King Fahd Causeway. An Interior Ministry spokesman said the Saudi customs officials at the causeway suspected a car that was coming from Bahrain.
'During inspection the officials found 14 plastic bags hidden inside the back seat of the car. Eleven of the bags had some metallic coating and weighed 30.87 kg.'
The spokesman said forensic tests proved the material was RDX and that there were two bags containing 50 pieces of explosive material in addition to a bag that was hidden inside a detonator' according to Interior Ministry's spokesman.
The security authorities started an investigation in coordination and with their Bahraini counterparts in order to determine the goals of this attempt and identify the culprits.
