UAE: 1000 sunglasses distributed among labourers

Dubai — La Moda Sunglasses and Emirates NBD in a joint campaign supported by Dubai Municipality has distributed over a 1000 new and donated sunglasses to labourers on the occasion of International Labour Day.

The charitable initiative saw UAE residents donate their old sunglasses to labourers who work outdoors. Donated sunglasses were repaired and sanitised by La Moda who also offered donors 40 per cent off on a pair of new glasses. In addition La Moda the fastest growing sunglass retailer in the Gulf donated new sunglasses to workers.

Emirates NBD helped raise awareness for the initiative among its employees and UAE residents as part of the bank’s commitment to community outreach. Both companies hope to run this initiative once again to ensure that all labourers of UAE have their pair of sunglasses and have invited other companies and individuals in the UAE to join the next campaign.

People residing in the Gulf region are exposed to high sun indexes and therefore harmful Ultra Violet (UV) rays.

The invisible UV rays from the sun can damage any part of the eye and directly affect the cornea lens and retina which can lead to cataract slow blindness and even cancer.
