Riau Turning Household Waste Into Energy Source

PEKANBARU May 8 2015—Riau Provincial Government is interested in turning household waste as a source of energy.

According to the Head of Human Settlements Department for Riau Province Dwi Agus Sumarno there is great potential of household waste in the region. “Just like in Pekanbaru the household waste from its community reached 1000 tons per day” he said Thursday (7/5/2015).

Moreover waste production in Kampar Regency as the closest are to Pekanbaru reached 50 tons in a day. Dwi said the household waste could be used or processed into energy such as garbage-powered plant.

In order to actualize the plan the company will build a waste processing facility in the village of Karya Indah Tapung Sub-District Kampar. “The facility will help solving the problem of waste management and energy crisis” he said.

Meanwhile Kampar Regent Jefry Noer positively welcomes the plan of waste treatment and processing from Riau Human Settlements Department. “We have responded positively to the plan. Since long ago we also have prepared an integrated program called Energy and Food Self sufficient Home (RTMPE)” he added.

Under the RTMPE the people of Kampar will be guided and directed to manage animal husbandry fisheries and agriculture with a satisfactory result and achievement value of IDR10 million per month. Read more..
