GCC meeting examines food safety issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The GCC food safety committee began a meeting here on Thursday, designed to discuss implementation of the joint GCC nutrition law and diverse issues namely food safety.

Abdullah Al-Qahtani, Qatar's Minister of Health, affirmed in an inaugural statement the GCC states' keenness on ensuring top nutritional safety standards, praising the GCC countries' joint successful accomplishments at this level, namely the enacting of the joint food system and the common index for supervising imported food products. He also affirmed the aspiration to render the GCC markets free of unsafe food.

The conferees look into several matters such as executive regulations of the joint food law and other issues related to food and fodders.

They also examine prospects of establishing a special unit for tackling food hazards such as those caused by energy drinks and applying the joint regulations on the imported food via border exits.
