Pakistan, Australia discuss bilateral relations


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and visiting Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop met in federal capital Islamabad on Thursday to discuss bilateral matters including ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.

The premier said, in a statement, "Pakistan would be pleased to extend more cooperation in all these fields." The visiting dignitary thanked Pakistan for extending cooperation to Australia in important fields like countering terrorism, drug trafficking, trans-national crime, human smuggling and organized crime. She said that the two countries should strengthen relations in these fields.

Earlier the Australian Foreign Minister arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit and met Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz.

During the bilateral meetings, both Pakistan and Australia explored the possibilities of further strengthening the existing ties, especially in trade, investment, agriculture, education, sports and defense, said Pakistan Foreign Office.
