Kuwait FM underlines strong ties with France


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Thursday asserted deepl-rooted ties with France, and keenness and mutual wishes to bolster them in all fields.

In a statement to KUNA, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said after talks with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius that "the meeting was an opportunity to complete discussions in the framework of strengthening cooperation between Kuwait and France and to discuss all issues of concern to the region and the world." Sheikh Sabah added that the meeting comes in the wake of the recent fruitful meeting between His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah with French President Francois Hollande in Riyadh two days ago, adding that a formal invitation to President Hollande to visit Kuwait will be conveyed.

He described the level of relations between Kuwait and France as 'excellent", adding that "bilateral relations have witnessed growth and development in various fields.

He also noted that preparations are underway for the upcoming visit by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Paris in the autumn season.

Regarding regional issues, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled affirmed the positive key role by France, urging it to continue the peace process in the Middle East, as well as a leading role in the fight against terrorism.

He noted that talks also dealt with latest developments in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah arrived in Paris earlier today to head the Kuwaiti delegation at the GCC meeting of foreign ministers with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
