Minister: Jordan expects more Arab tourists this summer

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Tourism, Nayef al-Fayez, on Wednesday, said Jordan's tourism sector expects larger number of Arab tourists, mainly from Arab Gulf countries, who will visit the Kingdom this summer. On the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market Dubai 2015 exhibition, Al-Fayez told Petra that the ministry focuses on promotional campaigns to attract additional numbers of Arab and foreign tourists.

According to the minister, the tourism industry was hit by the upheaval in the region but efforts are underway to spur growth in the key sector of the national economy.

Jordan's tourism revenues reached about JD3.1 billion in revenue in the past year 2014, the minister noted. Tourists' numbers grew by 1.6 percent, while revenues grew by 6 percent, according to the minister.

He pointed out that the ministry's campaigns in the Gulf states focus on promoting family tourism, which is expected to significantly grow this year.

Al-Fayez says the ministry seeks to attract European tourists in the Gulf countries as they are closer and more familiar with the level of tourism services in Jordan.
