Israel closes Hawara checkpoint in southern Nablus

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Israeli occupation forces on Thursday closed the Hawara checkpoint, south of Nablus, halting the movement of vehicles.

Eye witnesses said Israeli troops had closed the checkpoint connecting the northern and central areas of the West Bank in both directions, deploying large numbers of Israeli soldiers in the area.

Meanwhile, an electricity grid in Khirbet Umm Sidra, southern the Arab al-Ramadin town, south of Hebron, was destroyed by the occupation forces.

The coordinator of the Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements in Hebron, Tayseer Jabour, said in a statement, "Israeli occupation forces started removing the electricity grid adjacent to the Separation Wall, and they informed the Southern Electric Company and the Arab al-Ramadin Council that services are prohibited in this area, under the pretext that it is classified as a "C" area which is close to the Wall." He added that Israeli troops had also raided the area and bulldozed the land in addition to destroying its electricity grid, noting that the matter had been brought to the attention of the Israeli court.
