UAE- New Thai caign aimed at enticing ME travellers


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The campaign was launched at a networking lunch during the Arabian Travel Market 2015.

Tourism authority of Thailand (TAT) Dubai on Wednesday launched the “2015 Discover Thainess” global marketing and promotional campaign to attract Middle East travellers.

The campaign was launched at a networking lunch during the Arabian Travel Market 2015. Speaking at the event Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports explained that the campaign will introduce new products and services to entice the Arab market.

“Thailand remains a popular destination to many Arab travellers as well as others from the Middle East region” said Wattanavrangkul. “It has been named one of the top 10 Muslim tourist-friendly destinations by the Global Muslim Travel Index 2015. Last year Thailand welcomed approximately 650000 visitors from the Middle East with more than 150000 from the UAE 78000 from Oman and 62000 from Kuwait. The target for us this year is to welcome 696400 visitors.”

She added: “The Middle East market has remained an important source market for us with an increase in the total number of arrivals by 49.62 per cent in January 2015. We expect the growth in tourist arrivals from the Middle East to continue this year. Visitors from the Gulf countries have a high average length of stay and daily expenditure. For example in 2013 visitors from the UAE had an average length of stay of 10.6 days while Thailand’s overall average was 9.8 days. The average daily expenditure of UAE visitors was more than $195 while the overall Thailand average was $150. We are also proud and enjoy the distinction of being the top destination for Middle East travellers in Asia.”

“Visitors from the UAE Qatar and Kuwait already comprise the highest spending category of visitors to Thailand. They also enjoy the green season of the monsoon months July-August in our country as well as our destinations attractions and activities catering to this market” said Chalermsak Suaranat director of the TAT Dubai and Middle East Office.

In 2015 the TAT has set the revenue target of $41 billion that will be generated by 28 million international visitors. Source markets that are indicating positive growth trends are the UAE China Malaysia Singapore Hong Kong India France Italy Spain and Brazil.

Throughout the remainder of 2015 the TAT Dubai and Middle East Office will be implementing a range of marketing strategies to attract Middle East tourists through the 2015 Discover Thainess campaign. The TAT Dubai and Middle East Office recently concluded a series of road shows in Kuwait Qatar and Bahrain as part of its promotional strategy to focus on niche segments such as: weddings and honeymoons medical tourism green tourism gastronomy tourism and shopping.

Wattanavrangkul also highlighted the importance of participating at the annual ATM events.

“We have been exhibiting at the Arabian Travel Market since 1998 and this is our 17th year of participation. This year we have 59 Thai hotels tour operators travel agents and other related companies in the Thai delegation. Participating at ATM allows us to emphasise the priceless treasures of the country.”
