Dubai Airports' pavilion at Arabian Travel Market 2015 is one of the busiest at the event attracting a huge number of visitors keen to check out its new services.

Air travel can sometimes be stressful; few airports can boast of providing top-line services to its travellers.

Dubai Airports -- despite all the innovations and comforts it already provides to its passengers -- sees no reason not to push it to higher levels and elicit that “wow” feeling.

The airport operator is showcasing its new and improved facilities at Arabian Travel Market 2015 serving as a lead-up to the opening of its much-anticipated Concourse D.

“We want to transform the way our customers see us — from operating an infrastructure into a really customer service-oriented organisation” Paul Griffiths chief executive officer of Dubai Airports told Khaleej Times at the event.

Dubai Airports is showcasing — and allowing people to experience — services at its pavilion at the ATM from a CNN cafe to massage kiosks. Griffiths says this is just a preview of what passengers can expect from them in the future.

“We’re very concerened about the cust experience; we’re putting a lot of work in transforming the way we do things” he pointed out.

From 44th in 1993 Dubai International finally overtook London Heathrow last year as the world’s busiest airport.

Griffiths who ran London Gatwick before coming to Dubai in 2007 says is amazed by how far Dubai International has come.

“It’s been quite a significant outcome for everyone; it’s a major phenomenon. I never thought when I arrived here when we had 32 million [passengers] we would see the day that we would overtake Heathrow so quickly” he stressed.

Concourse D will be home to advanced technologies such as smart passenger services that would make life easier for everyone.

“[Using smart technologies] is a huge opportunity because it gives us the ability to be able to increase capacity without expensive infrastructure being put together” Griffiths said. “There’s a lot going on in the digital space; we are working very very hard indeed to transform customer experience using interaction with technology with smartphones new apps and integration with airport systems.”

Aside from these Dubai Airports will also bring a host of diverse and new establishments to Concourse D; Snooze Cubes CNN News Cafe Butlers Chocolate Cafe and making their UAE debuts Wolfgang Puck and Pret A Manger.

The opening of Concourse D Griffiths says will be confirmed once construction is finished “hopefully by the end of May”.

“It will be opening as soon as passenger trials are finished certainly before the end of the summer season” he added.

Asked if it is possible for Dubai International to lose its No.1 status Griffiths gave a straight answer: “No. I don’t think so.”

“I think we have a commanding lead and if we never become complacent and just continue to push the boundaries we will continue to lead the world both in terms of volume connecting traffic Dubai as one of the world’s great cities and also to show the world we’re not about quantity but we’re also about quality service and innovation.”

“Within the next 20 years demand for air travel is set to double... right on the back of economic prosperity [especially here in the Middle East region]” Griffiths earlier said at the Press conference.

“This region offers a perfect connection — and a massive opportunity for Dubai to continue to be the intercontinental hub that is established today.”
