UAE- Al Mansouri discusses economic ties with Romania

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, has discussed with the Romanian Minister of Economy, Trade and Tourism, Mihai Tudose, ways to develop bilateral economic relations and follow up on the implementation of the resolutions of the first meeting of the joint economic committee between the two countries, which was held in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, in June 2014.

The meeting, held at the Ministry in Dubai, was attended by Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy for Economic Affairs, members of the delegation accompanying the Romanian minister and representatives of the Romanian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.

Al Mansouri stressed the keenness of the UAE's leadership to develop ties with friendly countries, among others, Romania, citing the visit of the Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta and the delegation accompanying him to the UAE.

He referred to the growth of non-oil trade between the two countries from $133 million in 2006 to $249 million in 2012, and touched $440 million in 2013, adding that these figures do not reflect the ambitions of the two friendly countries, which look forward to stronger economic ties.

The two sides discussed a number of economic topics of mutual interest. They stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in vital sectors, especially in the areas of renewable energy, tourism, education, scientific research, health, industry, small and medium enterprises, civil aviation, agriculture and food security.

They also emphasised the need for boosting investment cooperation between the two countries.

The Romanian minister underscored his country's keenness to strengthen economic cooperation with the UAE through encouraging investors, businessmen and Emirati financiers to enter the Romanian market and explore viable opportunities in various sectors that could promote the development process in Romania.

The UAE established its diplomatic ties with Romania on 1st August, 1989. The Romanian Embassy was opened in Abu Dhabi in June 1990 and the Consulate General in Dubai in 1992, while the UAE Embassy was opened in Bucharest in December 2004.
