Malay David takes ninth women's Asian squash title in Kuwait

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Malaysia's Nicol David won her ninth women's Asian Individual Squash Championship in Kuwait on Tuesday as Leo Au of Hong Kong snatched the men's title from second-time runner-up Kuwaiti Abdullah Al-Muzayen.

David prevented Annie Au from defending her 2013 title, beating the Hong Kong native in three straight sets. The undisputed champion for eight consecutive years comes back to win her ninth title after a one-year gap.

Meanwhile, local-born Al-Muzayen went home empty-handed for the second year in a row, however, he did not bow out easily to the Hong Kong native, losing 7-11, 9-11, 11-13.

Speaking to the press following the event, Kuwait Squash Federation President Waleed Al-Sumaiee said that Al-Muzayen had been hoping to clinch the men's title, however, he was much affected by his tough 75-minute-long semi-final only a day ago with Pakistan's Nasir Iqbal.

Kuwait will be taking part in the West Asian Championships before hosting the World Championships in December, he added.
