Spain's football federation suspends all domestic matches as of May 16

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced late Wednesday an indefinite suspension of all domestic fixtures, including La Liga matches, as of May 16 due to a legal dispute with government over a new regulating broadcasting rights.

In a press statement, the RFEF decision stipulates that competitions of all categories would be suspended before the penultimate round of La Liga matches this season.

The RFEF said that the suspension will involve more than 600,000 players from 30,000 teams across the country.

The RFEF Board expressed dissatisfaction with the way that money from television rights will be distributed as per the new law.

They were also equally unhappy as the government did not consult with them before passing the controversial law which took hold Saturday.

"At the same time, and yet again, we reiterate the offer of dialogue to the Spanish government," the RFEF concluded.
