Senior GCC officials discuss trade obstacles, 16th fair


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Undersecretaries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministries of commerce addressed in their 42nd meeting in Qatar on Wednesday several topics on pan-GCC trade exchange.

Discussions covered key topics on the agenda, topped with following up decisions by the Trade Cooperation Committee on obstacles of pan-GCC trade, a GCC Secretariat memorandum on the 16th GCC fair, the executive rule of the trade marks ordinance, and a guidebook on measures and models of economic activities.

The senior officials also reviewed a memorandum by the GCC Secretariat on the Accounting and Auditing Organization (GCCAAO), and recommendations by the Intellectual Property Committee and the GCC World Organizations Committee (WTOs).

In an opening speech, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce Sultan bin Rashed Al-Khater stressed his country's eagerness to support initiatives and efforts seeking to consolidate GCC joint action to achieve the 'aspired integration." He also emphasized the role played by the GCC member states and Secretariat General, making use of fruitful efforts to complete establishing a strong Gulf economy, in accordance with resolutions of the bloc's Trade Cooperation Committee and the GCC Supreme Council.

Al-Khater also pointed to the strategic role of the private sector in the GCC economies.

For his part, Director of Commercial Affairs at the GCC Secretariat Rehan Mubarak Fayez, expressed hope the meeting would produce positive recommendations likely to help realize "Gulf economic citizenship" and enhance the bloc's march to fulfill the expectations of the GCC peoples.
