The publics love affair with coconuts has created new opportunities for accredited investors.

Los Angeles CA (PR Buzz) May 5th 2015 – Its now impossible to go to a grocery store beauty salon or health food store without seeing coconut products all around. People can’t watch the news cooking shows and health related TV without also hearing of the humble coconut. We hear about Alzheimer’s disease patients consuming coconut oil the use of alternative fuels and new kinds of water filtration…all employing the benefits found in the nut from ‘the tree of life’.

Ten years ago coconuts could easily have slipped into the category of a fad but that’s not what happened; coconuts and their myriad of products and derivatives have become ubiquitous. From cooking oil to soap energy bars to door mats dog food to toothpaste coconuts are everywhere. Richard Branson flew a Virgin Atlantic jumbo jet using coconut biofuel and Dr. Oz was explaining the health benefits of drinking coconut water (Pepsi and Coca-Cola are now major players in that industry owning millions of trees.)

“Agriculture is going to be the big thing in the next 20 years” said Jim Rogers in the Economic Times in 2011. “The best thing you can do is to become a farmer; that is where the money is going to be made.” Rodgers has been right before with his investment related predictions and maybe farming coconut plantations will be another smart move.

Why is this such a big business opportunity now? Well after the 2008 crash investors came to realize they needed more diversified investments with more emphasis on alternative products that had no correlation to the rest of their portfolio. This type of diversity would allow them to more easily weather the future peaks and valleys regularly experienced with more traditional investments such as stocks and real estate.  Savvy investors today might find that an allocation in the coconut space to be very rewarding.

In 2004 a tsunami devastated some 6 million trees in Indonesia which severely impacted the already old and poorly managed coconut crops resulting in a global decrease in availability. This was significant as Indonesia was the single largest coconut producer in the world and their misfortune increased the need for newly created and professionally managed coconut plantations.

“We are well into our corporate plan of planting more than one million coconut trees over the next few years” says Maderas Futuro CEO Alex Wilson. “We have allocated a small percentage of those trees for private ownership to accredited individuals family offices and other institutional organizations.” They offer a free report explaining more.

Wilson added that “This means that you can own your own “income-producing” coconut plantation generating annual multi-year crops sold to local and export buyers. Coconut trees have a productive life of up to sixty years giving owners an annual income and additional estate planning opportunities that can be passed on generationally.”

One final point: It would seem that coconut trees do not care whether markets are up down or sideways. They do not follow the news or whether political debates are negative or positive or what parts of the world are at war. They grow and produce nuts regardless of the broader investment marketplace and for risk adverse investors that’s as refreshing as the coconut itself!
