Jordan's Interior Minister meets EU Commissioner


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Interior Hussein Majali, on Tuesday, met with European Union (EU) Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos in the presence of EU Ambassador to Jordan Joanna Wronecka and the accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed issues pertaining to legal and illegal immigration, infiltration, security, and human trafficking as well as increasing coordination between Jordan and the EU. They also tackled current developments in the region and their impact on the region and the world.

The interior minister said the EU and the world consider Jordan as a state of law and institutions, and enjoys rich experience in the democratic process and freedom of opinion and expression, which puts it at the top of countries the EU should activate cooperation with in security, economic and political fields.

He spoke about Jordanian-EU joint programs that will bear fruit soon, especially in terms of facilitating visas to EU countries.

Majali said that the ministry will soon establish a special department for legal and illegal immigration under support from the EU.

In turn, Avramopoulos said that his visit aims to underline EU countries' support to Jordan to face the region's problems and difficulties. He praised the Kingdom's role in addressing many issues facing the region and the wise policies pursued by Jordan's leadership to overcome internal and external challenges.

The EU and Jordan will work together and coordinate efforts to strengthen the security system and address illegal immigration, Avramopoulos added.
