Italy- Hundreds more rescued in Mediterranean UN to discuss crisis Monday


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Hundreds have been rescued from the Mediterranean in the past 24 hours, Italian authorities said Wednesday, ahead of a UN Security Council discussion on Europe's migration crisis, dpa reported.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that she would brief
the security council via videoconference on Monday. The European
Union is consulting the UN on a plan to launch military strikes
against migrant smugglers based on the Libyan coast.

Meanwhile, the Italian coast guard reported that 646 people were
picked up from the sea on Tuesday, adding to the 8,377 migrants saved
between Friday and Monday. On the weekend, rescuers also recovered 10
bodies.
