US trade deficit widens to USD51.4b in March

(MENAFN) According to the US Commerce Department, the country's trade deficit widened further in March by 43 percent, to reach USD51.4 billion, Xinhua reported.

In the cited month, exports increased by USD1.6 billion from February, or 0.9 percent, reaching USD187.8 billion, while imports rose 7.7 percent to USD239.2 billion.

The surge in the monthly deficit had certain opposing impact over the country's economy in the first quarter. US GDP increased 0. 2 percent in the quarter, due to a strong dollar's drag on exports.
