Brazil's trade surplus hits USD491m in April


(MENAFN) The Brazilian trade ministry said the country posted a USD491 million trade surplus last month, taking the accumulated deficit for the year to date to USD5.066 billion, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The South American country's exports over the month of April reached USD15.156 billion, while imports totaled USD14.665 billion as the figure was 2.96 percent lower than April 2014.

Meanwhile, March brought a USD458 million surplus to stem January and February deficits of USD3.173 billion and USD2.842 billion, respectively, in the world's seventh largest economy.

Last year saw Brazil post its first annual trade deficit in 14 years at USD3.930 billion on falling commodity prices as well as economic weakness in neighboring Argentina, a major regional trading partner.
