Senegal to contribute troops to Saudi-led Yemen campaign

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Senegal will dispatch 2,100 troops to participate in a Saudi-led offensive in Yemen, Senegalese Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye told parliament on Monday.

The move came after Senegalese President Macky Sall held talks with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz in Riyadh regarding his country's planned participation in the offensive.

In late March, Saudi Arabia and several of its Arab allies launched a military campaign against the Shite Houthi group in Yemen.

Riyadh says its anti-Houthi campaign is in response to appeals by Yemen's embattled president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi € who is currently in Riyadh € for help against the Shiite militia.

The Houthis, for their part, denounce the ongoing offensive as unwarranted "Saudi-American aggression" on Yemen.

The Shiite militant group overran Yemeni capital Sanaa late last year and has since advanced on other parts of the country.
