Mike Huckabee joins race for US president

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Republican and former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, is making a second run for the US presidency, he announced on Tuesday.

Huckabee first threw his hat into the 2008 race, when John McCain became the Republican nominee contending with Barack Obama.

The 59-year-old Huckabee was a Baptist preacher before going into politics, and most recently hosted a program on Fox News. He has quit the show to focus on his presidential run.

In a speech announcing his candidacy, Huckabee touched on his foreign policy ambitions, vowing never to let Iran possess a nuclear weapon, and expressing his support for Israel's settlement expansion in the West Bank.

He also chided President Obama for not insisting that Christians "are the good guys," suggesting the president is an apologist for radical Muslims.
