CMC urges strict control over food outlets at fuel stations

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Municipalities, in co-operation with the competent entities, should specify the number and type of food outlets and eateries at fuel stations before giving them licences to operate, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended yesterday.

The council stressed the need to exercise strict control over such outlets with regular inspection tours by the authorities concerned to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Further, it was recommended that the municipality consider the possibility of making fast food chains stop preparing food at outlets in fuel stations and, instead, procure the meals from a kitchen located elsewhere to prevent pollution. Similarly, these outlets should be instructed to install adequate ventilators and fans to keep any unpleasant smell and fumes at bay.

Meanwhile, the CMC recommended that the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs ensure that workers at fuel stations were well protected and got periodical health check-ups to monitor the influence of hydrocarbon fumes, if any, on them.

At its bi-weekly regular session yesterday, the council also made various recommendations to mitigate the adverse effects of dust - which spreads in an area as a result of digging and demolition works - on the health of inhabitants and workers.

The council asked the Ministry of Environment to exercise stricter control over contractors undertaking such projects and use sophisticated equipment to monitor the process.

To follow up on the issue of developing facilities and services at the Mesiameer cemetery, the CMC issued a number of detailed technical recommendations to upgrade these and ensure that the deceased are buried with dignity and the burial process and funeral are conducted smoothly.
