Fiorina first Republican female candidate for presidency

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Former Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Officer Carly Fiorina, a California Republican, announced her long-shot 2016 candidacy for presidency on Monday.

She is the first declared female candidate to seek her party's nomination, but she has never held public office, losing to Democratic California Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010.

"I think I am the best person for the job because I understand how the economy actually works," Fiorina said in an ABC "Good Morning America" interview. "I understand the world; who is in it." Fiorina in recent months has traveled to early primary states, such as Iowa and New Hampshire, to lay the groundwork for her campaign by meeting with activists and donors.

Fiorina, 60, has emphasized her business experience, and has frequently criticized former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the front runner for the Democratic nomination for president, and Clinton's lengthy career in government.
