Jordan ranks first in International Mental Arithmetic Competition

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Jordanian children proved that they are at the forefront of creativity and innovation with seven students ranking first in the International Mental Arithmetic Competition which concluded yesterday in Amman.

More than 15 Jordanian schools running the Genius Map program to develop mental arithmetic skills participated in the competition, Rasmi Mallah, the program manager in Jordan said.

He pointed out that Jordanian students have high levels of mental calculation, noting that the competition included more than 500 genius students aged between 6 and 16 from nationwide and around 1,000 students representing different countries.

This skill helps pupils to develop their academic level, Mallah said, adding that the program depends on Soroban, a Japanese counting abacus used for calculations in a number of countries.
