50 injured in protest against Israeli police brutality , racism


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) More than 50 protesters, most of them policemen were injured Sunday evening as protest by Israeli Jews of Ethiopian descent spun out of control.

According to media reports, thousands of Ethiopian Israelis have protested in Tel Aviv against racism and police brutality. The rally was sparked after footage emerged purporting to show an Ethiopian Israeli in an army uniform being beaten by police.

Protesters threw rocks and bottles at police, who fired stun grenades and charged the square repeatedly on horseback.

Clashes between the police and anti-racism demonstrators left 46 people injured, including 23 police officers.

Twenty-six were reported arrested, the reports stated.
