US confirm navy to escort shipments through Hormuz

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US confirmed on Friday that its navy fleet ships in the Arabian Gulf will be protecting and escorting American flagged vessels in strait of Hormuz.

"Yesterday and today, we've had US ships accompanying US-flag ships through the strait," White House spokesperson Josh Earnest told reporters," adding "apparently, that offer is being extended to other countries.

"I think what we've communicated, both publicly and privately, is that the United States and the international community are not at all willing to trust the Iranians," Earnest said.

"That's why we will insist upon in the context of these ongoing nuclear negotiations a set of historically intrusive inspections," Earnest added.

Last Friday, the Marshall-Islands flagged Maersk Tigris container ship was detained by Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz over claims of unsettled payment dispute by the Iranians.
