Saudi- We need Gulf people in the media says GPA chief

(MENAFN- Arab News) Nasser Al-Othman secretary-general of the Gulf Press Association (GPA) called upon managers of the Gulf newspapers to make room for Gulf people to become involved in media work.
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day which was observed on Sunday Al-Othman highlighted the need to prepare the Gulf people to assume responsibility for continuing the Gulf media path stressing the need to broaden the margin of freedoms which will unleash creativity.
He said that young people in the Gulf who want to work in the press have the suitable qualifications needed for success and only need the right opportunities.
He said these talents have plenty of understanding and skills to meet their aspirations especially since most of them studied more than one language and have excellent computer skills which is the language of this generation.
Al-Othman said that GPA began pushing in this direction two years ago by holding a number of meetings including important sessions in Kuwait and Jeddah. The meetings were attended by female journalists and others working in the field in order discuss challenges they face. He added that other meetings with youths are scheduled to be held before the end of this year one of which will be in cooperation with Al-Nahar Kuwaiti newspaper.
He said the GPA is in the process of implementing a number of programs in cooperation with the general secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) explaining that the two institutions are currently studying a number of proposals that mostly target young people who are seen as the the future of the nation.
An extensive meeting was held in Riyadh in February between the GCC and the GPA headed by GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani. All challenges facing the region were discussed and the meeting created a list of recommendations that support Gulf media work and encourage Gulf people to be creative in this field.
