Poll stations to open around world for Turkish elections

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Nearly three million Turkish citizens living outside the country will be able to cast their votes for the June 7 general elections at 112 points around the world, Turkey's Supreme Election Board has said.

The board said on Thursday that 57 polling stations in Europe were among the facilities available between May 8 to May 31 for 2,867,658 Turkish nationals abroad to elect 550 members of Parliament in the country's 25th general elections.

A total of 53,765,231 people are registered to vote in Turkey, officials said.

Polling stations for Turkish citizens living outside the country, who will cast their votes at border-crossing points, will be open until June 7.

Polling stations are usually established in Turkish representative offices, embassies and consulates in many countries around the globe.

In countries where offices of Turkish representatives are considered inadequate due to the high number of voters - such as Germany - fitness centers, schools and fairgrounds will be used.

Germany has the highest number of Turkish citizens - 1,404,987 - registered abroad to vote in the elections, with France second with 311,796, according to the Supreme Election Board.
