Doha to host meeting on Yemen today

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A consultative meeting on the humanitarian situation in Yemen will be held today in Doha at the invitation of the Yemeni cabinet's relief and co-ordination authority and in co-operation with Qatar Charity.

The one-day conference aims to enhance consultation and search for the best means of humanitarian response in Yemen. Representatives of humanitarian organisations in GCC states and the Islamic world will take part in the conference.

The event seeks to exchange information on the humanitarian situation in Yemen and shed the light on challenges and difficulties facing efforts of humanitarian response there as well as briefing participants on the Yemeni relief and co-ordination authority and how to co-ordinate with it.

The meeting is expected to come up with a working mechanism that helps in distributing roles between humanitarian entities and setting a plan for urgent humanitarian intervention.

The months-long humanitarian crisis in Yemen has resulted in a deteriorating situation on all fronts, particularly those related to the daily life of citizens such as services and facilities.

Hundreds of thousands suffer from water and electricity outages, scarcity of petroleum derivatives, lack of food and an almost complete collapse of medical services.
