P5 urges IAEA, Iran cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The P5 urged the continuing need for full cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iran in order to resolve all outstanding issues, including those related to possible military dimensions.

On behalf of the five world powers, the UK welcomed before the 2015 Treaty on the non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Review Conference late on Thursday, the fact that the P5+1 (five permanent UNSC members and Germany) and Iran have reached solutions on key parameters in Lausanne, Switzerland laying the agreed basis for the final text, and highlighted their continued commitment to complete successfully negotiations by June 30 on a comprehensive settlement that would ensure the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's program.

Nevertheless, the P5 (China, France, Russia, US and UK) also welcomed Iran's continuing implementation of its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) and the essential role the IAEA is playing in verifying them.

The NPT Review conference kicked off its session on Monday with Algerian President Ambassador Taous Feroukhi.

The NPT is a landmark international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament. (end) mao.hb
