(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) President of the opposition National Syrian Coalition (NSC) Khaled Khoja on Thursday called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to take effective action against the regime of Bashar Al-Assad.

Khoja emphasized in an Arria formula meeting co-hosted by the US, UK and France, that the Syria crisis posed a global threat due to the extremist terror threat bred by the Assad regime.
He urged the Council to fulfill its role to maintain international peace and security Moreover, he called on the UNSC to enforce its resolutions 2118, 2139, 2165, 2191, and 2209 by adopting Chapter VII measures in response to the systematic and continuous use of chemical weapons by Syrian regime forces.
Khoja also called the Council to ensure accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity as a component of the political solution, in addition to stop the barrel bombing in Syria by authorizing the establishment of safe zones.
