Egyptian selling Kuwaiti passports sentenced to 7 years


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Faisal Al-Askari sentenced in absentia an Egyptian expatriate to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor for allegedly falsifying official documents and selling Kuwaiti passports. The suspect who is an employee of the General Department for Citizenship and Passport Affairs will be deported after he completes the jail term and pays a fine of KD 25000. Meanwhile the court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen an Egyptian and a Bedoun who were involved in the same case.

Verdict nullified: The Court of Appeals has nullified the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to one-year imprisonment with hard labor for allegedly assaulting and insulting a cafE employee and breaking three sheesha pipes worth KD 60. The court instead acquitted him. According to the case file the defendant entered a cafE along with a woman and ordered a sheesha. The employee brought the sheesha pipe and prepared it but when he was asked by the defendant to puff it well to ensure it is set properly the employee refused because he does not smoke sheesha. In his statement the victim said the defendant suddenly attacked him physically and then insulted him. In the process the three sheesha pipes broke. The defense counsel Lawyer Esmet Al-Kharbotli stressed the lack of substantial evidences to prove that her client assaulted and insulted the cafE employee. She also indicated the contradictions between the testimonies and the physical evidence.

Pay lawyer KD 3000: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Waleed Nasser ordered a Kuwaiti citizen to pay compensation worth KD 3000 to Lawyer Faisal Al-Otaibi for sustained when he was assaulted by the defendant while he was performing his duties. According to the case file the suspect assaulted Lawyer Al-Otaibi and his client inside an elevator which is used by the lawyers in the Justice Palace. Prior to the assault the court had upheld the verdict issued by a lower court against the suspect fining him KD 100 for the same charges. After the court session the suspect attacked Lawyer Al-Otaibi and his client after which they filed charges again against the suspect leading the court to amend its earlier decision of fining the suspect KD 100 and instead increased it to KD 2500 for the damages and an additional KD 500 declaring the verdict as final.
