GCC in efforts to strengthen joint security


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The proposed Unified Gulf Blacklist for terrorist entities and individuals will serve to meet the threats and terrorist acts that target any GCC country and prosecute culprits, HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani said yesterday.

"The joint security co-operation move among the GCC countries, especially during the recent years, has become a role model at regional and international levels," he pointed out in the presidential address at the 16th consultative meeting of the GCC interior ministers in Doha.

"We believe that the security sought by our people has become one of the biggest challenges faced by our countries because of developments, radical changes and extremely sensitive circumstances witnessed by our region," Sheikh Abdullah said.

The Prime Minister observed that the meeting was held "under exceptional circumstances and unprecedented challenges faced by the Gulf region and the Arab region as a whole".

He said: "In the forefront is the political and security instability of many countries, especially of Yemen, the stability of which is considered as the stability of our Gulf countries."

Pointing out the main security challenges, the Prime Minister cited as examples the terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia, where two security men were killed and the explosion at Karana village of Bahrain which resulted in the death of two policemen.

Sheikh Abdullah lauded the wise decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, in launching "Decisive Storm".

"The stand of our leaders towards the Yemeni crisis has increased our ability and the strength to overcome all challenges faced by the GCC countries through taking the lead in addressing the risks and security threats to any of the member countries," he added.

Heading the delegations of the GCC member countries were UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Bahrain Interior Minister Lt Gen Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa, Saudi Arabian interior ministry undersecretary Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Salim, Oman's Interior Minister Hamoud bin Faisal al-Bousaeedi and Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohamed Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah. The delegation of the general secretariat of the GCC was headed by the secretary general Dr Abdul Latif al-Zayani.
